SELF CARE!

SELF CARE!

We all know how important it is to take care of ourselves and we all take little steps every day to stay healthy and well. Self care enriches our emotional, mental and physical well being. For some people, self care means settling down on a sofa with a book, for others it’s going for a run in the park. It can be everything from a daily shower to learning a new skill from scratch.

We all need to take care of ourselves, but sometimes - it’s easier said than done! Especially with our hectic lives. Some weeks we have it together and sometimes we struggle to even find time for the basics. It’s times like these when we need our self care habits the most. When you’re busy and overwhelmed, these small acts of self care activities can bring a sense of calm to the chaos. Here are our few favourite activities to do when we feel overwhelmed with our lives – these habits help us stay balanced and comfortable!

CATCH THE SUNRISE or SUNSET

Watching the sunrise can be a powerful way to start your day! It reminds us of new beginnings and if you’re not an early bird, see if you can enjoy the sunset instead. End your day feeling good as you wind down before heading to bed.

TAKE A WALK

There’s something very calming and refreshing about going for a walk. The fresh air can do wonders to how you feel – We find it so relaxing.

BAKE YOUR FAVOURITE DESSERT

There’s nothing better than the smell of delicious, warm baked goods. If you like baking try a favorite family recipe or learn baking your favorite dessert.

TAKE A LONG SHOWER

If you usually take a quick shower – a longer shower can feel really refreshing. Let the water run over you for longer and exfoliate, moisturize and take care of your skin. Add healing salts to your bath water and put on a good playlist to feel ever better.

CATCH UP ON YOUR FAVOURITE PODCAST/SHOWS OR BOOKS

It can be hard to make time for these things! Most of us have a favourite show or two but it’s not always practical to stay up to date with them! Put on your favorite podcast on a speaker and listen to it while you’re ticking off another activity. Ask friends for book recommendations and start a new book. Even if you read a few pages or few chapters - it’s a great way to feel calm.

LIGHT A CANDLE

A light refreshing candle can help a space feel calm and relaxing. Go for a warm, comforting scent to make your self care day feel like the ultimate cozy day.

DECLUTTER

If your space feels crowded or cluttered, it’s hard to feel calm and comfortable. Schedule in some time to declutter a drawer, corner or a whole room and see the difference. It can have a really positive impact on how you feel about your home and life in general.

BUY FLOWERS OR A HOUSEPLANT

If you like, fresh flowers or a touch of greenery can help brighten up your space and make it feel more inviting and positive.

LISTEN TO MUSIC AND SING ALONG

Music can really change your mood and reflect on what’s happening in life. Create a playlist and listen to your favourite songs. Lots of us are afraid of singing out loud. Embrace it, if you can and enjoy the carefree feeling that comes with singing along to songs you love.

BE THANKFUL!

This is truly the best way to end your day! Take some time to reflect on your day, week, month or your year! Give thanks and feel grateful for everything you’ve enjoyed, celebrated and benefitted from. It’ll help you stay grounded and realize there is so much to be thankful for. Feel blessed.
